Obama Implements GI Bill Protections

President Obama recently signed an executive order that will require institutions of higher learning to provide information about dropout rates and opportunities for financial aid as well as protections for active duty personnel, veterans and their family members from unethical recruiting practices. There has been growing concern on Capitol Hill that some for-profit schools had been overcharging and misleading veterans and service members on the benefits of their educational curriculum. The executive order creates a complaint system for military and veterans receiving educational benefits and a mechanism to refer the complaints to the appropriate government agency to investigate any complaints (“Know Before you Owe”).
