Meeting on the Effects of Sequestration

FRA attended a Capitol Hill meeting this week on the significant impact of mandatory spending reductions on the Department of Defense (DoD) if Congress does not act to halt these cuts by the end of the year. Secretary of Defense Panetta, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Dempsey and other service leaders have expressed serious concerns about imposing another $55 billion in DoD spending cuts in 2013, as required by the Budget Control Act of 2011. This would be in addition to the more than $480 billion in cuts to Defense spending already planned over the next 10 years. FRA has expressed concern about this issue in its 2012 congressional testimony and in meetings with members of Congress and staff personnel.
