Stopgap Spending CR
Speakerof the House John
Boehner (Ohio) and Senate Majority
Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) agreed this
week to draft a Continuing Resolution (CR) that will keep the government
operating at current spending level for six months after the current
fiscal year ends on September 30, 2012.
This longer-than-usual CR
is expected to be passed in September and will extend government
operations well into 2013. This will allow lawmakers to focus on more
pressing legislative priorities through the lame duck session (that
begins on November 13, 2012) and into the First Session of the
113th
Congress (which begins on January 3, 2013).
