Walgreens is NOT Rejoining TRICARE Pharmacy Network

The July 20, 2012, edition of NewsBytes included an announcement that Express Scripts Inc. (ESI), TRICARE’s drug-plan administrator, had settled a long-running contract dispute with Walgreen’s drug store chain. Unfortunately, it appears this information was disseminated prematurely and widely reported. 

FRA has learned that the two companies have not reached an agreement and Walgreen’s will not return to the ESI retail pharmacy network. Express Scripts will maintain its current retail pharmacy network of more than 57,000 pharmacies available to TRICARE beneficiaries, and Walgreen’s will continue to be a non-network pharmacy provider for TRICARE beneficiaries.
