VRAP Helps Unemployed Vets
Rep. Jeff Miller
(Fla.),
chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, recently issued a
status report on the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP),
indicating that more than 45,000 unemployed veterans have started, or
will soon start, classes to learn a new trade through VRAP. They will be
enrolled for one-year, with the costs covered by the Montgomery GI Bill
(MGIB).
VRAP was established by
the VOW to Hire Heroes Act that was signed into law November 21, 2011
(H.R. 674 – P.L. 112-056).
Miller was the original sponsor of the legislation and
predicts that 99,000 veterans will participate in the program in FY
2013.
