SBP/DIC Offset Bill Reintroduced
Rep. Joe Wilson (S.C.),
chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel,
reintroduced the “Military Surviving Equity Act” in the
113th
Congress to eliminate the SBP/DIC offset for widows and
widowers of service members. Currently, the Department of
Defense’s Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) is offset,
dollar-for-dollar, by the Department of Veterans Affairs’
Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) plan. This bill (H.R.
32) seeks to eliminate the offset, also known as the
“widow’s tax,” for approximately 60,000 survivors of
military personnel. Members are urged to use the FRA Action
Center to
ask their representatives to support this legislation.
