“We the People” is a program that allows citizens to place petitions on the White House website (www.whitehouse.gov). One of the petitions currently posted pertains to the unequal and unjust treatment of divorced military retirees caused by Uniform Services Former Spouse Protection Act (USFSPA). If the petition gets 5,000 signatures by October 22, it will be reviewed by the White House policy staff.Click here to sign the petition.
FRA supports the introduction of legislation addressing inequities in the law that unfairly divides military retirement benefits as part of divorce proceedings. The Association supports the introduction of legislation authorizing amendments to the USFSPA and believes Congress should schedule public hearings on this poorly-written and inconsistently-applied law. FRA repeatedly raises this issue in its Capitol Hill testimony and in discussions with legislators and their staffs, and is committed to working like-minded groups to amend this onerous legislation.
