Additionally, each
service sponsors an employment assistance program for spouses and family
members. They offer education and resources that can help military
family members find employment, but should not be considered employment
offices or placement centers.
Each Navy Fleet
and Family Support
Center has a
Career Development
Resource Center that
is available to assist spouses, family members and transitioning
military personnel find employment. Visit www.ffscnorva.navy.mil/seap.html
for more information.
The Marine Corps sponsors the
Family Member Employment Assistance Program (FMEAP), which is similar to
the Navy’s program. For more information on FMEAP, visit www.usmc-mccs.org/fmeap.
The Coast Guard’s Spouse
Employment Assistance Program (SEAP) offers access to computers,
resource libraries and a variety of self-service employment resources,
and assistance in preparing resumes and completing applications for
federal positions. The program’s website (www.uscg.mil/worklife/spouse_employment.asp) includes further
information.
Although the government
offers a wealth of resources for military spouses, it does not provide
placement services. The Military Spouses
Corporate Career Network (MSCCN) helps fill that void. MSCCN is a
non-profit organization that specializes in placement solutions for
military spouses, war wounded and caregivers of wounded
warriors.
MSCCN connects job-ready
applicants with a growing nationwide network of employers who support
MSCCN’s mission of job portability and career continuation for
military spouses. The organization works with military family centers
and other support agencies, the military services, and corporate
employers to help applicants secure meaningful employment.
