Hawaii Senator Inouye, Pinnacle Recipient, Passes at 88

FRA joins the nation in mourning the passing of Senator Daniel Inouye, who died yesterday at the age of 88.   He was the senior member of the U.S. Senate and the President Pro-Tempore at the time of his death, and had represented the people of Hawaii in Congress since the territory became a state in 1959.

Inouye was an Army veteran who earned the Medal of Honor for his military valor in a combat assault in Italy during World War II. His commitment to his country and service members continued throughout his congressional career, including efforts to provide full funding for Defense healthcare programs and increase active duty pay levels.  His dedication to military personnel and their families earned him FRA’s prestigious Pinnacle Award in 2004.
