VA Simplifies Appraisal Rules

The sweeping administrative adjustments fundamentally restructure home appraisal requirements, slashing outdated rules and reducing paperwork bottlenecks that have historically slowed down military buyers. VP Vance Headlines Naval Review
The Department of the Navy officially unveiled its high-profile scheduling slate for International Naval Review (INR) 250, a massive maritime spectacle set to dominate the Port of New York and New Jersey from July 3 to 8. Anchoring America's historic 250th birthday celebration, the massive fleet gathering will bring together warships, advanced military aircraft, and international crews representing over 130 invited foreign navies and coast guards. Navy officials confirmed that Vice President JD Vance will personally headline the celebration, presiding over the signature Freedom 250 Media Center Release event directly within New York Harbor on July 4.

From Protest To Service
A new oral history spotlight highlights the journey of Navy veteran and FRA member Max Templeton (Duke Class of '71). In a retrospective titled "From Protest to Service," Templeton recounts his experience as one of Duke University's first Black students, arriving on campus in 1967. His early years were shaped by the 1969 Allen Building takeover, a student-led protest demanding racial equity and academic reform, which helped forge his understanding of courage, community leadership, and structural change.

After graduation, Templeton carried that commitment into a career as a U.S. Navy officer. Since leaving active duty, he has remained active in veteran advocacy, spending hours each month writing to Congress to protect earned benefits as a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.

FRA HQ Closed Friday
In honor of our nation's founding and the historic semi-quincentennial celebrations unfolding across the country, the FRA National Headquarters will be officially closed on Friday, July 3, 2026, in observance of the Independence Day weekend. Baseline operational administrative offices, legislative program tracking, and member support networks will be inactive on Friday so that our dedicated staff can celebrate the holiday with their families and shipmates. Regular business hours and standard operational workflows will resume promptly on Monday, July 6, at 0800.

While the physical headquarters building will be closed, the FRA Action Center remains fully functional online 24/7. Members are strongly encouraged to utilize the holiday weekend to engage with active legislative campaigns, review pending defense spending bills, or send automated messages to their representatives demanding clean passage of vital veteran protections.
